| Of Flemish descent, Henricus improved on the great works of his Father Jodocus Hondius (1563-1612) and the well known and much appreciated Gerard Mercator (1512-1594). Henricus paid homage to them, as well as Ptolemy and Julius Caesar, in this delightful edition, complete with historical notes. | |||||

| A Venetian, Zatta made and published many maps in his career. This offering from 1774 is well liked for its clear rendering and the four fates decorating the corners of the picture. | |||||

| A Dutch printer, engraver and globe maker Valck, his son and his in laws, successfully created and sold hundreds of maps through the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Valck's work shows a light hand with both the pen and colored inks giving it a delicate ethereal feel. | |||||

| A Frenchman, Tavernier was a minor engraver who worked for Nicolas Sanson. He is perhaps better known for being the namesake of his uncle who published many popular works, including titles by N. Tassin, P. Bertius and N. Sanson. The bold engraving and bright coloration of this have made it increasingly popular over time. | |||||

A Dutch mathematician and engraver, van Loon's work appeared in pilot books and sea atlases released by various publishers. In 1661 he published his own atlas Klaer-Lichtende Noort-Star Ofte Zee-Atlas which was popular into the early 18th century. The delicate lines and bright colors of this map have stood the test of time. |

A Dutch engraver and publisher, de Wit, was one of the most active and prosperous map purveyors of his day. Besides sea charts and world atlases, de Wit was known for his maps of the towns and cities of the Netherlands and Europe. A true artist, his work was sought for its beautiful engraving and tinting during his lifetime, and remains popular to this day. |
